22 S61 Eos restored

Text: Email to Allan Förberg by Dr. Matthias Grothues-Spork

Hello Allan,

my name is Matthias Grothues-Spork, I am from Berlin Germany. I have bought S61 from Niclas Hallberg last October. Early November I brought her to a boatyard in Potsdam near Berlinwhere she was restored to perfection. The boatbuilder (Frank Fritze, Yachtwerft Potsdam) has done a great job. Eos was supplied with a complete new deck (oak deckbeams, larch scaffold and teak top with mahogany fish and frame). While the deck was off, 22 spants where replaced with laminated oak spants. The entire hull was sanded to the raw wood, there it showed, that the substance was in perfect condition, needed no replacement of planks or balks, and than was varnished again. The chrome parts where restored and the running tackle was replaced and optimized.

Last Wednesday she was put in the water. She made some water but nothing to worry about. Friday she was motored to the Berliner Yacht Club at lake Wannsee, where the boat will be situated now. We set the mast and yesterday had the maiden journey. She sails like cat walks, absolutely fantastic.

I intend to participate in some classic yacht regattas in Germany and intend to come to Sweden for the 100 years skaergardscruiser celebration next year.

The process of restoring Eos to perfection. The process of restoring Eos to perfection.

From next email:

The boat is an absolute beauty and runs like hell. Yesterday I had the first downwind run with spinnaker and the speedo showed 9,2 knots. Absolutely fantastic. I will attach one more picture and the invitation for the namegiving party on june 9th, here in Berlin.
